How many students is the school designed for?
- The design capacity of the proposed school is 1,130 students. That equates to 171 square feet per student.
- Since the Maine DOE standard for elementary schools of this size is 135-140 sf per student, the proposed school is 22% larger than the State standard.
- If the mega-school is approved, the projected enrollment on opening day in 2027 would be 978 students. That compares to the current enrollment of the three neighborhood schools of between 204 and 219 students. (Remember that the proposed new school will be K-3, versus the existing schools that are K-2, so there will be an additional grade in the proposed consolidated school.)
- As another point of comparison: the current enrollment of the High School is 905 students. On opening day, the mega-school would have 73 more students than the High School currently has.
